How to handle different cut lengths of a product

This explains some methods to handle and track the different cut lengths of a single product

Setup:
The custom length drain pipe unit is in: Meters, i.e. sell it in Meters
(optional) A supplier price can be setup so that the item can be purchased in Units/each (e.g. 3M per unit) and have a conversion unit of 1 Each = 3 Meters

Scenarios:

1. Do you need to keep stock on how many pieces of the cut length pipes you have in stock?
If so, then use the Batch tracking process. I.e. each batch is a cut length pipe and each batch can have different cut lengths e.g. 0.94m or 0.75m. This way you can see how many different lengths of pipes are remaining on the computer.
But this way will produce more work to manage the batches.

2. Sell the pipe in a kitset, add a default cut length into the kitset e.g. 1M; and then change it to as per the customer's requirements on an order by clicking on the "Edit kitset" link, e.g. change the quantity 0.88 or 1.6 or 0.99 etc
The invoice report shows the pipe unit is in Meter and the quantity reflects that.
