Inventory adjustment or transfers

Bookmarks: Location transfers

On the inventory adjustments page (Products > Inventory control > Inventory adjustments), you can make manual adjustments on inventory levels for any location by entering an adjustment quantity.

To increase an item's inventory level, enter a positive (plus) value.

To decrease an item's inventory level, enter a negative (minus) value.

Adjust stock levels with a cost

To enter a cost for an adjustment:

  1. On the inventory adjustments page, add the product to the adjustment with either a positive or negative quantity.
  2. Once added, click the product line in the Items added list.
  3. The Cost to adjust field then becomes active and editable; enter the desired unit cost here.
  4. Click Add item to save.

Cost adjustment

To adjust the cost of a product:

  1. On the inventory adjustments page, click Go to cost adjustment at the bottom-left.
  2. (Optional) Select the reason for this cost adjustment.
  3. Enter or search for a product.
  4. Enter the new cost of the product.
  5. Click Post adjustment.

Reasons

When making the adjustments, it's useful to select a reason. The reason is logged with the inventory transaction and appears when you view the transaction details.

To add, remove, or change the list of available reasons, go to Settings > Products > Reasons or click the pencil icon beside the Reasons dropdown list.

Location transfers

There are two modes of location transfer. The default mode is a direct/immediate location transfer, and the other is a request and stock in transit process.

Here is an example of a stock in transit process:

Assume we transfer inventory from A to Z. As soon as the transfer is committed, there are three things that the system will do:

  1. Inventory will be reduced from A
  2. The inventory from A will be put into stock in transit (Purchases menu > Transfers in transit)
  3. And a transfer purchase order will be created for the destination location, in this example Z.

When the inventory has arrived into Z, the Z's warehouse can then receive the transfer purchase order and receive the items into stock.

Also, there is a place to enter a related transfer freight cost (before committing the transfer). This is so that the system can automatically pro-rata or distribute the freight cost onto the product(s) when they are receipted into the destination location.
